I'm hoping to have it there on 29th.

The optical tacho is just an optical counter. You stick a piece of reflective tape on the harmonic balancer and point the tacho at it. Displays in RPM.

Not sure where the voltmeter gets its feed from, but probably from the battery voltage. Regardless, its DC. To trigger one of these tachos you need either AC or an on/off pulse. Only way to get that from the standard alternator is to tap one of the windings in the alternator before it goes through the diodes.

The other option I know of on the 4bd1 is the Isuzu sensor that mounts into the bottom of the injection pump and an Isuzu tacho.

Yep , AC required , that explains it :)

I have a good 75mm VDO tach0 in the Stage One which rarely gets used ( The Stage One that is) so tyhougt I'd garb it out and use it in the Isuzu.

Thought the optical strobe was just a reflective tape jigger :)

The injection pump sensor set up is around $ 470:eek:

Teh other one is the strap on injection line sensor but I think that's still around the $ 300 mark all up

From memory the gauge itself cost me around $150. Its a 2" one so will fit in the standard dash. Add to that a couple of hours stuffing round with the alternator to fit the wire to run it (if you had to pay an auto-elec to do it for you).

Wire is already there Steve.
Auto elect is currently rebuilding the Alternator ( subject to cost it may be replaced with an upgrade) and we discovered it there:)
Think it has something to do with the D -Gas injection metering system.
The spot for the 3 x 50mm gauges may get taken up with ; EGT ( thanks for the prompt re D GAs temps) , Oil pressure and sill tank fuel level gauge.

If you're going to be putting in EGT and oil pressure gauges its worth considering a Madman EMS - gives you settable audible alarms etc and doesn't take up your whole dash. I'd have gone that way myself if I didn't already have the boost gauge fitted, and the EGT gauge and temp monitor from my D1.
Would still like to do it in the future to remove the clutter - but a long way down the list for now...

Also, with the tacho from your Stage1 - it might not have the adjustment range to match the Isuzu alternator. Would be a good thing to check out before you go to a lot of effort fitting it to the County.

Good point :)

With the madman EMS , I understand that you can set it up to auto scroll through the different items measured but I'm not sure that you can set it up to alarm with different parameters for each item measured.
If it's measuring EGT at the time on auto scroll and one of the other parameters is outside a safe range you won't know about it for a few seconds , wheras a gauge/constant display for each item allows you instant analogue access. ( And the assoc clutter)

For example ; EGTs over 500- alarm , engine temp over 100 - alarm , oil pressure under 40 PSI etc.

AFAIK thats incorrect.

From the Madman EMS2 manual:
"The EMS2 will automatically jump to the information
display screen that is causing an alarm."

Yes - multiple gauges will show you all the info all the time, but only if you look at them.
How many times have you been too busy driving to look at the gauges for a couple minutes....especially the criticals like temp and oil pressure.
Give me an audible alarm any day for those :-)

VDO make an 85mm tacho that runs off sine wave generated by hall affect sender on isuzu fuel pump, it doesnt have to be a 24v tacho, 0-4000 rpm also with hour meter, not cheap at around $230. its another option

does one really need a tacho, you can hear it rev, and isn't that what the governor is for:)
