Unless you can do the job yourself you are looking at a pretty high labour bill to remove/refit from vehicle and dismantle/inspect and reassemble. Bearings and synchros ballpark around $1000. Expect at least that much again for labour. Very time consuming job to clean/dismantle/inspect and reassemble.

So it could be worth a shot. I could R&R the box and then get someone to do it up for me. I could even possibly give it a shot myself, just need to get the correct tools to do it.

    Might be worth it!

you allready ready have a four speed in the other county, get a bellhousing for it and use that, just another option. the lt95 has a good reputation for standing up to the Isuzu.

Its a finicky sod of a box to setup properly, its doable with basic tools a press, some patients and inventiveness. it comes in a light (split casing) and heavy version.

its still better than a 77 to get right but its no match for an lt95. (but thats a 4 speed)

if the price and the concept of $2k to rebuild the box and potentially a further $2k to sort the steering gear and tcase is ok with you its probably worth it.

There was a LT85 (5 speed) box just passed in on Ebay for $500. I would have jumped at it but I just refurbished one- cost more than $500 too
It says no wear on the output shaft, so that's a good sign.

    Someone called Brian seemed interested

I just looked at Ebay & it's back there

    Hi all,

I have been thinking long and hard about this truck and I have decided I am not going to buy it as a truck for myself. I am going to stick with the v8 and make a fun rocket for myself. So it begs the question, is this thing something I should buy and wreck out or sell it on here. As stated earlier I need a firewall for my project and this one is in pretty good Nick. Would the engine and gearbox sell quick? Thoughts?

I would imagine the engine will sell but you might be stuck with the gearbox. They are virtually worth nothing if worn bad, but the transfer case could be ok.

Personally I think you are insane choosing a v8 110 over a 4BD1. You could turbo and tune the 4BD1 to waste any rover V8.

120s are relatively rare. I would pass the info on and let someone else buy it who is going to fix it up. 110 firewalls are easy to come by in good condition.

FWIW - Mal Story (Maxi-Drive) rebuilt my LT85 for $4500 (!) - fortunately at the PO's expense. If and when it ever dies I will be fitting an R380 - or an Isuzu box.

Ashcroft has rebuilt LT85s for reasonbable prices (but whipping a duties would be a killer).
