    Full Rebuild Recommendations

    Well

As much as I love the Defender I am seriously thinking about going back to my original plan to do a full rebuild of the 86 Isuzu County.

Jobs already done pre my purchase are ; Full engine rebuild , LT95 Box rebuild , new inector pump , new water pump , new radiator , and lots of ot6her good stuff.

    Repair/ upgrade jobs that I am looking to pay someone to do ( because that is the best way for me to do it for various reasons) are things like;

A full pre expedition type mechanical check over for faults , diff rebuilds , maxi drive axles , lockers , new seating , replace air cond with a much better system , fit my loose turbo and assoc bits , fit new exhaust , fit soundproofing , make it watertight , new clutch maybe , upgrade seating , all new suspension with maybe truck type air bags , fit my bullbar and winch , supply and fit long range tanks , check and repair any rust ( maybe some in the rear cross member and a little in the passenger footwell ) and some other goodies.

Looking to spend around $ 10 -$15k and want a drive in/drive out solution.

Who would you recommend for such a task in Melbourne or surrounds ,
Peninsula Rangie or someone like that

I doubt you will get someone to do that list for those $$$.

Lockers and axles will cost ~ $5k fitted with compressor.
New AC system ~$2k + Labour (Say $1k?)
Fit Turbo ~$2k (depending on if you have a complete kit or just a few bits)

I suspect your full list would be closer to $20-30k - unless you can find someone to do it for mates rates.

Ask Matt (rovercare) how much he has spent doing much of the same stuff to his 120 project (doing all work himself) - and it is still a while off rolling.

If I was paying someone I would see if JC was interested. You then get a tassie trip into the bargain.

    Good thinking

I will make up a wish list prioritised and speak to JC and some others for a budget.

I could ferry it down to JC , fly back to Melb and pick it up in a few months when done

Hey Mat, is it true that the only thing watertight to come out of your shed is your wallet?

I've been looking for someone to do this for the last 2 years.

In the end, it's easier to do it yourself.

Ah yes - forgot about you Matt.

I'm sure you can improve the wiring too (e.g. fit relays for the headlights) - which is a critical issue the OP left out!

Same deal to you Dobbo, send it down and I think I initially told you when I was charging $30/hr those years ago

Out of curiosity is cost the only reason why people (those that seek drive in/out) don't have their 4bd1 rebuilt by licensed Isuzu dealers?

Fwiw I've spent about 30 on mine, doing a lot of it myself and I'm not 2/3 through your list.
    Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
