its all standard im pretty sure but theres a few things that are strange 1.first gear seems a tad to high on takeoff compared to defender lt77 or R380 2.but on other hand 1st low range seems slower than anything known to man (excluding mogs of course) 3. 5th gear on say about 100km/h seems like,to many revs but cannot say due to no tacho !
It all comes down to revs and gear ratios between the fenders and isuzu's harder reving fenders feel more impressive but then there's a hill !
Sounds possibly like you may have 1.2:1 high range. The 110 my engine came from was factory fitted with 1.222:1 high range and LT85. It was quite revvy on the highway in 5th consequently saw a few tall tyre combinations to rectify this, it was a NA engine too
The engine is now turboed/ intercooled and in my vehicle, I have a 4 spd with .996:1 high range, and 33" tyres. I am very happy with the gearing except 1st is too high at times, and reverse requires lowrange to back a trailer
. The key to these engines is to keep the revs down, it is amazing that peak torque is down around 2000rpm, the performance seems like it drops right off around 2900 to 3100. If you are running 31" tyres and 1.2:1 highrange, it is possible you have gone through that optimum torque band by 100Km/h.
With the LT95, low range is even lower at 3.3:1, my 1st low is sometimes toolow, have to accelerate down hills to avoid a traffic jam
If I hold my foot flat, it'll reach the fuel rack stops at around145 km/h
I agree, not many Tdi's or Td5's will keep up on hills
