    Where have my revs gone???

I fitted a 1.21:1 t-case a while back. Around the same time I also had to replace a couple of speedo cables in rapid succession (old one frayed, 1st replacement was dodgy).

Since then, the engine will only rev to ~2850 rpm - top speed ~103km/h on 33's (with an accurate speedometer).

It seems as if the accelerator doesn't have as much travel as before, however the stop on the IP is still wired in the same spot.

I had to take the fitting off the pump to replace the cable - that couldn't have made a difference could it???

Sounds like your not getting max fuel at the pump have you checked that the cable is pulling the arm on the pump all the way ? Maby your cable has stretched .

I wouldn't rule out the cable, replacing my accelerator cable made a heap of difference to the performance on mine, I could only get a V8 cable, it's been a few years but it was around 5mm shorter from memory. Every mm of travel counts.

The cable is pulling the cam all the way to the stop/bolt.

The only thing I can think of is that when I removed the cam during the last change I rotated the shaft 180deg backwards somehow. IRC when I got the engine going after the cable change (and a bunch of other work - was off the road for a while) it needed the idle stop adjusted up which I thought was strange.

Anyone know if that is even possible? I don't have the pump manual to hand. WHen pressing the accelerator, as soon as the slack is taken up the engine revs increase, but very slowly at first.

Dobbo - the V8 and ISUZU cables are the same. However I have found they do vary in length. A longer cable won't change the distance between the stops though.

Different Engine/Injector Pump, but when I hooked up the auto to my 4BJ1-T I had to weld a lever for the kick down cable to the IP lever. So removed the lever from the IP to do so.

When I put it back together she wouldn't start. Having got the engine from a wrecker I was starting to wonder.... but with some aerostart down its throat I worked out that the lever was working in the opposite direction ie. idle direction was more fuel and more fuel direction = reduce fuel. Pulled the lever of and fiddled with the shaft, heard a 'click' as I rotated it, put it back together and all good. Started first go like a dream.

I suspect a cam inside the pump was rotated past 'centre'. It may be possible yours has done similar to less extent. From memory (7 years ago), I pushed the shaft down then rotated.

    Time for an update.

I undid the bolt on top of the IP and removed the accelerator cam. The shaft could be dropped down about 5-6 mm but didn't seem to disengage at all.

As I still had some accelerator pedal travel left, I settled for adjusting the high speed stop so that I had full accelerator travel.

I can now get up to ~3500 rpm, so I am happy with that.

It would be nice to know exactly what happened though. When I have more time I will have to have a good look at the pump manual.

mine did the same thing, with the pedal to the floor it just wasn't pulling it all the way.. It was only noticed when the spring in the accelerator broke and a new one was fitted.

..not sure how it happened either
