Mike Vine at Capalaba. He does a good job, drive in drive out engineered dynoed etc. However is not cheap. I would gather the bits yourself, and then diy or give it to mike vine or motsons. There is lots of turbo info on the forum. You are welcome to look at my set up.

Yes - Kaa45 has this on one of his Countys. Exhaust runs from the standard manifold around the back of the engine to the turbo located next to the inlet manifold. Exhaust then runs out above the RH chassis rail into the front guard area and out.

Although the people who have those setups are reportedly happy, it is unquestionably less efficient than using the OEM turbo manifold.

    Brisbane Turbo and Tuning

    BRISBANE TUNING & TURBO CENTRE

I know both these guys, Bob used to work for the previous owner and Bob and Nic purchased the business some time ago. Have a catch with them, they know 4BD1's pretty good and i am sure they could give you options.

i'm booked in for the 31st Dec for a tune up on the dyno.

He does and fits a small A/R T3. Bearman has this setup. It goes great - no impact on performance.

That's what I mean. I am sure these remote turbo setups "go great" and are a huge improvement over an NA 4BD1, however from a thermal efficiency and fluid mechanics perspective, the wouldn't work as well as an identical engine with the same turbo, but mounted instead on the factory manifold.

Whether or not that difference is noticeable except on a dyno is another matter.

There are at least a dozen different turbos that will work on the 4BD1. But it all depends what the goal is.

Do you have a power or performance goal?
Do you want/need to install an intercooler?
Do you value low end torque or high end power?
    What is your budget?
    DIY or drive in/drive out?

Not exactly true. you have gone down this track before with no supporting evidence. I think now’s the time to post up your math’s.

There are some inherent advantages to remote mounts.
