    Hi Chris

I still can't see what I'm writing so excuse the spelling mistakes. I did the first oil change tonight. It haddn't ben chaged before by me. I put Castrol VMX 80 in the t/case and gearbox.

It seems to change gears a lot better now.
    Cheers,
    Brian

The colour of your text is blending in with the background me thinks. if you go advanced reply and click on the down arrow in the top menu next to the A you should be able to change it to something of greater contrast black is usually a good default.

thats about normal for the plug, of more concern are the small flakes on the strainer.

    Nero,

Thank you for the help. I gave that a go yesterday and it diddn't change anything. I not only couldn't see what I was typing, but I had no cursor. I could write in any other box though . Today its working fine again. Musta been some sort of glitch.

    Dave,

When the afro was removed from the plug, the actual metal there was similar to moly grease or wet dust so nothing to worry about there. The particles in the 'rock catcher' were mostly 'super blue' gasket maker but I did find 3 small pieces of aluminium the same size in the filter.

I wish I knew when the oil was last changed. What do you think the aluminium is?

    Cheers,
    Brian

the aluminium could be anything but most likely is only some swarf from some work (most likely when the old gasket material was scraped off)that was done on the box, where a detent spring is chafing or from the threads on the fill/drain bungs if they have ever been over done or cross threaded.

    WIth the afro plug...

the test that I use on them is to wipe them off on a clean white rag and then massage it about a bit with my finger, If I dont get a metal splinter or feel "chunks" then Its just normal wear and I dont worry about it, If its white metal it can be part of the syncro gear.

Thanks Dave. I ran all the oil through a clean rag and had a good look at the contaminants and the mag plug stuff was as fine as moly grease so nothing to worry about there. There were only a couple of bits of aluminium which I'm not too worried about and the rest was blue gasket maker.

    All is good

    Cheers
