    Leak around injector?

    Hi all.
Well I finally got the Landy running again after 6months off the road. The oil cooler housing had corroded through, and dumped the coolant out while I was driving. The engine did get hot for 15 seconds before I caught the problem and shut it down. Now I have replaced the cooler housing and the engine is running well, I have run it for a good half hour at normal temps and there are no signs of gases or oil in the coolant. But I have noticed a very minor gas leak from between the injector body and block (about a 1-2mm bubble comes out every 5 seconds. The leak may have been there before the cooler craped itself, but i'm not sure.

Is the leak likely to be just an Injector sealing issue or could it be the block has been damaged?

    Cheers Paul

now thats not something Ive seen before...

you have both a fluid and gasesous leak from the body of the injector.?.

hopefully I've just interpreted what you've said incorrectly and youre applying a liquid to identify a gas leak from the injector area.

    in any case.

a continuous liquid leak from the injector of a running engine will be diesel and indicates a a body sealing problem or a union leak thats dribbling down the body, occasionally it will be the return line but you usually spot that.

any air leak is going to be combustion gasses and in severe cases compressed air. before you go on trying to fix it one last thing that should be checked is the return line flow for combustion gasses going backwards up the injector. (the injector will get warmer than all the others that are working normally)

the field fix for the injector seals is to pull the injectors then heat the injector seals with a cigarette lighter then re-install them while warm, quickly install the injector but dont overtighten it. overtightening distorts the seal and the problem returns. off of the top of my head the torque setting for the injector nuts is about 25nm.

    best of luck with it.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave.

Pretty sure it was just a gas leak, It only showed up because it started raining when I was checking for diesel leaks on the injector lines. I will give it another run tomorrow and check if that injector is running hotter. I have not pulled the injectors out of the Isuzu before, I'm guessing the gasket is a copper one at the base of the injector body just up from the nozzle tip?

yep, the best installation and removal tool for the seal is a push bike spoke.

    removal procedure is pretty simple.

    remove the return lines
    remove the HP injector line
    undo the 2 nuts,

    pry the injector up carefully
