    Battery dud or wiring somewhere?

I have done a search but would like some more detail please

Having just retrieved the Isuzu out of storage, I may have a batterywiring problem.

The battery is reading 12.95 volts (after 24 hrs on a 4 amp charger) resting but the engine only just turns over ?

On the way home the ammeter was all trhe way over on the right at max + charge

If the battery is okay which wiring should I look at first.

    Pete

Hi Pete, having a battery reading of 12.95 shows you may have a fully charged battery but a stuffed battery can show the same thing, and with the amp meter showing such a high charge going to a battery that should be charged, well I think you need to get the battery tested before you do anything.

Another quick test to rule the battery in or out, as being the problem. Get another battery and see if you have the same hard starting problem.

If the motor is still hard to start, then check all the cabling and terminal connections.

Your battery charger may be stuffed. I would say you got a partial charge only, so the battery needed much more charge. 12.95V with the charger recently disconnected is low, I would expect at least 13.5V with a fully charged battery.

More importantly check the charging voltage with the engine running. It should not exceed 14.5 volts or thereabouts when cold.

Pete - I think you mean volt meter??? The isuzu has a factory volt meter not ammeter.

If it is all the way over to the right your battery was at ~14V while driving.

I would check/clean the battery terminals and connections - and if that doesn't help try another battery as drivesafe mentioned.

    Ooops

    Yep I did mean voltmeter

A mate from Pirahna has it on his 3 stage charger at the moment for a few days.

    We'll see what happens
