    It is, but who cares

I fix the motors up, not a huge fan of turning key off AND pulling a cable myself, its bad enough on the real tractor

Mainly what should my check list for the 4bd1 and LT95 consist of?

I will be sending her to the mechanics for a suspected rear main seal, she leaks rather badly and I will get them to run an eye over the box at the same time and also check the valve clearances.

Doing cape york means the vehicle will be doing more than one decent swim. Is there anything worth doing to extra safe guard my engine/fuel lines from water.

Thankyou in advance for any advice.
You dont have to swim anymore. We went up in the 80,s in the Isuzu 2B FC. Ferry over the Jardine and easy ford of the Wenlock. I believe it has a bridge or something now. All the fords on the Telegraph were easy.

    manual shut off

Works a treat and if it breaks, you get another bicycle brake/bowden cable to fix it, or a bit of fishing line/string will do the job till you get the bike cable.

Try an aftermarket choke cable from local speed/parts shop, they cost about $15 and are a solid wire in a spiral wire sheath. They fit nicely in the choke cable hole on the steering column. Being wire they can be pulled out then pushed in easily, unlike a bowden cable. And dont forget the stage 1 was a manual shut down!!!!!!

    diff breathers etc

I'd make sure you have a wading plug for your bell housing to fit before river crossings to stop any water getting in the clutch. Make sure all your diff and gear box breathers are fixed properly to your diffs/gear box and don't leak. Fill every moving thing with a grease nipple with marine grease. Make sure your air cleaner/snorkel (you do have a snorkel right?) rubber bits are sealed properly before any sub-landrovering.

Also any shock absorber that you have ANY doubt about should be replaced or at least carry a spare for the front and back (landy's are nasty to drive loaded with a shock missing). Good quality A/T tyres. Change fuel filters (inluding cleaning out the little strainer on the bottom of the fuel pump) as you might experience 'different' quality's of fuel.

I know its probably all common sense but I just thaught i'd put it out there. I hope you enjoy your trip. Don't forget a good camera!!!

    Cheers,
    Brian
If you are going swimming it is advisable to fit breathers to your swivel housings as well, everyone seems to forget them, the CV joints dont like water ingress. The fill plugs are 3/8 gas, just screw in a barb and attach some hose. I cable tied the hose through 2 holes I drilled in the back plate for the disc rotor then ran them along the brake hoses into the engine bay, tucking them into the firewall with the wiring loom. Cost about $10!

I just removed all the internal seals. That way the swivels and the diff share the same oil, and the same (upgraded) breather.
