    Turbo Troubleshooting

The turbo I have bolted on is spewing out oil from the compressor outlet (charged air)!!! I know this can't be normal. What is the most likely cause and how can it be fixed???

    Thanks

rebuild or replace. not knowing what turbo you have, maybe a kit is avalable?

any way do it fast, it will not heal by itsself and you risk a runaway

Further info... Its a brand new turbo and T25/T28 hybrid. I noticed oil spewing out of the exhaust turbine first and now its also coming out of the compressor outlet!

    Thanks

The turbo oil feed is supplied directly from the vacuum oil feed banjo (primary). I haven't regulated the oil feed however. Should I?

I don’t know your setup, but turbos have an upper and lower limit, which may or may not be in line with the vacuum pump limits. Very important on bearing turbos, less so but just as on bushed. Usually chuck a pressure gage on first to check pressure then check flow. It could have been to little flow which has stuffed some thing up.

Why did you take the oil supply from the vacuum pump? There is a gallery in the block just under the manifold, usually taped and ready to go

I decided to connect turbo oil feed line to the vacuum pump supply as I have seen it done this way on another 4bd1 also connection only required a tee piece.

How good is the oil drain pipe? No kinks, reduced diameter fittings etc? I sold a turbo kit once to a bloke and told him in no uncertain terms not to use a previously fitted small sump drain fitting. When he came back to whinge about oil issues I saw he had done just that.

Nothing wrong with using the vac pump oil feed as the turbo oil feed as well.

However - as mentioned, what diameter is your drain and how is it routed???

Is the turbo BB or journal bearing? If BB it doesn't need as much oil and you may need a restrictor on the inlet (though unlikely).
