Turboed Isuzu Reliability

Sorry dougal it isn't a gt25 like I was told it was but after doing some investigation of serial numbers it is a TB28 so a you would know its like a gt28 but made for certain applications in this case its off a Hino truck I think... So I was wondering use the gt20 as I have been doing with good results (looking for low down torque more than anything) or test the gt28 on there or use both in the compound arrangement ? Was looking at both the turbo's to see if the housings etc etc could be mixed and matched like you do but they don't look like they will be compatible....

Does the hino turbo have a tag with ID numbers?

Yes but unlike the gt20 having stamped on the impeller housing GT2052 this turbo has a little alloy tag riveted to the bearing carrier housing there is 3 lines of numbers but I think tge last numbers are of interest are 704689-6 if that means anything to you ?

100kw 4.6 litre hino. Should be a good match straight up.

Would it affect down low ? Or would it spool up just as quick ?

Should be pretty good. Probably a bit slower spool than your TD5 turbo but can do higher pressures.
Just beware some of those Hino turbos had a T3 flange that's turned 90 deg from what you expect.

most engines will take about 2 degrees more than standard.

interesting I was planning on finishing my flange so that it can accommodate both turbo's so if I like one more than the other I can switch over in the matter of minutes touch wood....i think that the flange is a T25 flange from what I found.... I would like to give the compound turbo option a go even though the work involved is alot depends if the outcome would warrant it ?

Thanks blknight... I was told by others that 12° advance would make it go like a rocket but 12 is different to 2 :o

thats cause the advance I was talking about is 2 degrees more than standard and the standard timing is (depending on which manual you read and which setup instructions you follow and what weight setup you have in the auto advance unit) anything from 2 deg ATDC through to 10 deg BTDC...

a net search reveals that some people are happily running up to 15 degrees BTDC..
