The long skirt pistons are usually the industrial variant, the short skirt are the truck type. Or so was reported by lovemyrangie, who used to sell isuzu parts for a living.

I'm not sure how I missed that, but it's impressive.

G'day All, I spoke with Bob one the lads who work there, he informed me that the block/crankshaft/camshaft/No 1 con-rod have been sent to Dr Mak? (spelling) in East Maitland, NSW for a specialist consult.
I know they had trouble getting No 1 cylinder liner out, because of the pounding it copped in that few seconds it ran with little or no piston attached to con rod, so i guess I will just have to wait n see, I do have a 3.9 Isuzu block in the shed if I need it, anyway when I get more information I will post it up, cheers n thanks Dennis

Yes Ron, but you'd find a way to break a billet of bisalloy

    G'day All,
I recieved a phone call last evening (Friday) to inform me that the block etc had been delivered to Modern Mtrs Dungog, as of last evening it has had the crankshaft fitted, other parts hot washed.
The old pistons n rods were also included in this hot wash, and it was found that the 3 remaining pistons had developed cracks leading down from the crowns of the pistons into the hollow ??combustion chamber in the crown, the concensus of opinion from the people who work there, was that this was indicitive of over-fuelling.
I have just had the injectors rebuilt, the response from those people was 'did this engine run??!!!', my response was yes, and it ran well, from their diagnosis it should have been blowing clouds of white smoke and running as rough as gutz, it did neither, it ran well ( with noise) until it s**t itself.
I did have the tappets reset about 5 years ago, and the same person opened up the pump a whisker, and I mean it actually accelerated uphill (believe it or not!!) anyway I'm not blaming that person for my engines demise far from it, but what is the concensus of opinion here, would/could overfuelling do that to a piston?? anyway maybe in a week or two I will have to take it to a diesel service and have the pump tweaked backwards (for the want of a better word LOL) cheers Dennis

    How many km's again?

In my experience Isuzu injectors even completely shagged start and run fine, just not as clean burning.
Were you blowing black smoke before the piston broke?

G'day All, Almost 500,000k's, my wife was driving behind me when it died, no smoke what so ever, apart from black when throttle wide open, but that wasn't happening as I was nursing it towards Dungog, just moving along at 75-80k's cheers Dennis
ps at 27 years of age, something has to go wrong sooner or later,,.
