G'day All, I'm going to leave that decision to the lads at Modern Mtrs Dungog, the head doesn't appear to have suffered any damage at all, it didn't even bend the glow plug in No1 cheers Dennis

    No news is good news!!

G'day All, I'm reliably told that my engine is in need of either replacement as it has ??lots wrong with it

I'm told that something has gone around with the timing gears and has left score marks on them, also the C/shaft has a score line where the rear oil seal sits

the lobes on the camshaft are well worn so I guess the cam followers would be the same

I was in a hurry (working) and I forgot to take pix of the camshaft timing wheels etc and the pistons, I do know that they are the 98mm type, also it is said that the conrod must have hammered the bottom of the liner and the seat in the block??, anyway at this point in time I need to consider ?? where would I get a Isuzu 4BD1 engine, anyway cheers Dennis

    Yuk

Would it be worthwhile looking for a 2nd hand truck engine and transferring the externals like flywheel-housing, starter and manifolds?

    Diana

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

That is a bugger - have you been filling the sump with gravel???

However it is a long way from a total loss.

A new camshaft, liner and piston will fix most problems by the sounds of it.

As long as the other timing gears are no worse they are probably good for another 500000km.

The groove in the crank where the oil seal runs can be fixed with a speedi-sleeve.

If you buy a truck 4BD1(T) it will most likely need a rebuild as well.

Also, apart from a generic speedi-sleeve, there is a special Isuzu wear sleeve and oversize seal to fix the crank groove problem.

I don't see anything terminal or even much beyond a normal rebuild. Sure the timing gears will be noisier, but I'm guessing they were for quite some time already.
