    Isuzu replaceable oil filter

I have just drained the oil ( everywhere) & didn't pay the slightest attention to the sequence.
I assume the spring goes at the top against the smaller oil filter hole??

Much appreciated, someone is coming to buy it tomorrow

Nothing but spin on types in the books & Dave's CD

Bit hard to follow exactly what you are saying, but if you have the outer case of the filter with the long bolt through the hole (and preferably with a new O-ring under the head), then the spring, then the flat washer, then the filter with the hole that is a tight fit on the bolt going on first. Then screw the whole assembly on, again, with a new O-ring. Good practice is to oil the rubbing surfaces on the filter both on the bolt and the flat seal round the big hole in the element.

    Hope this helps.

Thenwasher is a plain flat washer. Its fuction is to prevent damage to the top seal on the element, which could occur as the bolt is screwed up, if the spring turns with the bolt - this is only likely to happen if you turn the whole housing, which is likely to happen in my experience. Also, the uneven pressure from the spring may distort the seal and prevent it sealing properly, or even, depending on the structure of the filter, dislodge the seal from the filter. There is nothing special about the washer, although I would make sure it has no burrs on it.
