turbo options, pump mods, etc
ok so i've bought myself another county with a 4bd1. i had one in my 90 a couple of years back, then turbo'd it with a new factory garrett and screwed the fuel up some and was happy with the performance, and had a little intercooler running about 12psi. after a short while i got the pump rebuilt to 'turbo spec' and got more power again and lower EGT's.
so now i've got a 110 (bought at the right price after it went under in the floods) drained all the fluids new starter and shes a driver!! so i wish to turbo her soon but want to know what way other people have gone about their setups.
who has done what mods pump, what turbo, intercooler size, boost your running, VVT's?, etc to get the old girl up and moving! i'm a shocker with search's sorry.

VNT's are the way to go from what i've driven. Check Rovercares build. He's running a GT2260vnt at 30pd boost with a water to air ic. It goes quite well, once he gets the turbo sorted better, it will go much betterer

Vnt would be best for a even power torque curve but then again others prefer a well tuned setup running either gt25 or gt28 for example... Dougal has talked about mixing and matching housings from various turbo's to achieve great results.....im running a gt2052 (small I know but its not how big it is its how you use it
) im running a front mount the size of the radiator
fuel turned up only 420°c max after turbo and 23psi max (all this is weeks ago before I have done some other mods such as probe position and intercooler lines so who knows now) problem is I cannot seem to get any more fuel seeing as though the fuel screw is not adjusting the fuel for some reason
im asuming there is other screws etc that need to be tweaked I don't know?

Hi Sam!
I have a T2860R (I think) from an S14 Silvia. I am happy - it is a fairly large turbo, but perfect on the highway. The VNTs are another good option.
I am in the middle of making a Laminova intercooler (bought the bits from Matt McInnes on outerlimits). However a large front mount would probably be just as good.
Having just had a look at your last setup on the weekend - I wouldn't use the same intercooler this time around
IMHO it is too small and in the wrong place. You can also bolt a tappet cover on from a truck/turbo motor to avoid making a custom breather setup. The air cleaner on your old truck would have sapped a lot of power as well.

Hi Sam,
this isn't as exciting as Rovercares setup, but very simple and reliable.
New exhaust manifold and TB25 wastegated turbo, Td5 Defender rad and front mount IC, All fits straight in with Td5 Def bracketry etc etc. Minimal fab work, and very simple reliable.
Best to give me a call on 0408 995 635 and I can explain further.
JC

Mine as Vern says is a VNT, 30psi, plazmaman water to air intercooler, I hit 680C the other day, but that was 3rd gear, on the governor up a steep long hill, I'd like to get more fuel, but until I machine a spot to fit an external waste gate I can't reduce boost, so can't up fuel
, I've run it with more fuel, the torque is ridiculous
all fitted at 299,600kms, I've just clocked 307,000 today
It does this with practically no smoke anywhere in the rev range
Its substantially better than what I had, shame your not closer, anyone is more than welcome to take it for a hack
Fuel is something like 4 or 5 turns out on the fuel screw from where it started

kool thanks for the replies gents, so from what i can find the gt2260 vnt doesn't come with external wastegate? and they were in audi 3.0L and iveco daily 3.0L and is the flange setup same as stock turbo maninfold?
another quickie am thinking of putting my toyoconverted diffs in the baboon (isuzu) they are 4.3's will this be way to low geared for highway with the lt95 and 35's? or will 3.54's and 35's with the 4 speed be too high? i ran 35's previously with a lt77, 3.54's and 4bd1T and was torquey enough to handle it
