Would a salisbury front end in a Defender be able to handle the weight of a 4BD1?
Thank you, I have seen them for sale recently in the UK. Of course shipping is expensive, but they are non-existant here in the States!
Plenty of places in the states could build you one - e.g. Keith from Rovertracks in CO.
Rovertracks salisbury axles start at $3300 USD,more expensive then impoting one from the UK. I plan on bringing some other large parts, I can save on shipping overall.
Yes, they use 35 spline Dana 60 innards. Part of it is also the upfront cost, I can buy the UK sals and install it, then later on as my funds replenish I can up grade them. Life always seems to get in the way when I am trying save up large sums of moneyThat is why my 110 is a rolling project, I use it as a daily driver and add bits on as I can afford it.
So is it just a rear diff popped in the front or different ?
Advantage of a Sals diff in place of teh Rover one in FRONT would be ???
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

You need to convert to an open knuckle setup instead of swivel balls in order to fit the 35 spline knuckles or CVs. I would have thought it would be cheaper to start with a Ford/Chev D60 front, or bring in a rear sals from Canadia.
Vlad, it is like the difference between a .22 and your .375.
For starters, the axles:
Top: 35 spline Sals/Dana
24 spline rover
10 spline rover
And the diff (guess which is which):
