    Aircon unit for a 4bd1-t

    Hi, I had to do away with the oem a/c unit to allow for turbo to bolt up. I'm now looking to have a/c fitted once more. I've retained the a/c compressor as this is only about 12mths old. I've had a look at a range of aftermarket units such as the reddot etc however I'm not sold on the fitment location/ practicality. I have heard of some people who have fitted a later model TD5 defender a/c evap unit to the county (fitted at the bottom face of the dash and extends the entire width- as per defender). My mate has a defender and the a/c works a treat in FNQ.

    Does anyone have any experience on this? Pros/ cons? Also, any idea where I can pick up a reasonably priced defender a/c evap unit e.g Brit parts etc?? My first preference is a local i.e Australian supplier.

    space for feet

    Hi All

    As I have removed my centre seat out of our defender, could a condenser unit be built into the space immediately below the seat box and extending up to where the centre seat was?

    I stil have a genuine defender unit that I have never fitted, as my work offsider at the time had enough trouble fitting his size 14 hoofs into my bus, as it was.

    With the turbo spun around and the exhaust exiting rearward, is there enough room for the AC?

    Hi Dougal, I've already installed the turbo as per the conventional setup - requiring removal of the oem condenser unit.

    I think triumph rover spares had a 'complete defender A/C' for about $1500 a while ago.. they also come up on ebay every now and again.

    You will have to cut wholes in your firewall for it to fit.

    I don't think so. Not unless you made a custom manifold.
