correct, swap the bell housings and the lt85 changes from the v8 to the diesel.
the single piece casing is stronger but a bit harder to overhaul. where a single piece casing box fits the split casing unit fits.
if with your normal driving technique you got to 250K Km (near enough) theres no reason to believe another box of the same type wont do the same.
If your casing is good and you have a known good local gearbox builder then Id suggest getting it rebuilt, that will give you a bit more time up your sleeve to sort some other things, If its a case of its got to be on the road now, get the replacement unit.
