    Surging?

On a recent trip from brisbane to perth, I had problems with the engine surging, and would appreciate people's thoughts on what it could be.

    Symptoms:
When sitting on about 3/4 throttle (about 10-12 psi boost) and trying to maintain a constant speed (speedo wasn't working so don't know speed or rpm) the engine would speed up, and boost would increase (to about 16 psi), then slow down, and drop back to 10 psi, and repeat. It was as if I was constantly pressing the accelerator then backing off. NOTE - the engine was not losing power, power would increase, then drop back down to the power I was trying to maintain.

If I put my foot flat on the accelerator the engine would accelerate smoothly. Likewise, if I backed off below 10 psi, the problem would disappear.

It happened on 3 or 4 occasions (over 4 days of driving) and the problem would be present for at least an hour or more when it occurred.

I suspect the injector pump is the most likely culprit? Do others agree?

    Btw - engine is a 4BD1+T. T is a T2560R with wastegate wired shut.

Would be nice if it was that simple, however the Provent is running as an open system at the moment. I have a minor oil leak which seems to be coming from the dipstick tube, but the intake is on the opposite side, and the air filter was clean last I checked.

Does the fuel pump have an altitude compensator on it?

Mine did/ sometimes does the same, I am thinking possible advance sticking but at 550,000km without any attention i am just going to suck it up until it becomes time for pump and injector attention. At 11l/100 and easy starting etc etc i'm not feeling like disturbing the equillibrium of the system at this point....

Stock na landie pump so no aneroid.

The engine has had a slight hesitation mid rpm on hard acceleration, basically since I turbo'ed it. I think Rovercare has reported the same?

    The engine has ~400k km.

Yup, I think they don't like it when the fuel gets upped, Tony's was the same, albeit worse than either of mine, but both mine have been the same since winding the fuel up

I have nothing useful for the bigger problem

Speaking of which, where has Tony been?

I had a quick chat with the Ultimate Suspension blokes last weekend about Tony's 120 and souped up Triton and the hell he puts them through. Ultimate are out at his this weekend to do some more testing I believe.

    Looking forward to more videos
