ok this is what you can do re Sheldons kit, re use your starter, flywheel housing, flywheel, pressure plate (?), you'll need a new friction plate, and a LT230 1:1.003 and linkages, and from memory the LH gearbox mount, and a MSA 5g gearbox. His conversion kit comes with shifter, adapter from the MSA box to the LT230, slave and master, and anything else you may need, he's very helpful in that department. Oh and you'll need the adapter ring to suit the landrover flywheel housing.
Or you can sell all you LT 95/isuzu bits and find the truck flywheel housing and flywheel, starter, clutch etc and this is all factory isuzu. This is what i've done, cost alot more but i get the bigger clutch, and its all isuzu. For me it was more cost affective to sell my LT95 isuzu bits and go straight isuzu.
Reason i shortened the throw on my shifter was because i have a body lift as well.

have a read, or you can ring Sheldon, i can PM you his number.

This conversion for your car Mutt would cost around the same as those you posted.
That's the first photo I've seen of the "short stick" conversion. Looks nice and clean.

That one is the 5 speed box with a splitter on the back. Factory option in my 1985 NPR owners manual but doesn't look like many trucks got them.

The MSA-5D is a US market only box. I have 5G and 5P. The 5P has a lower 3rd gear which was a pain for my use but may be perfect for someone else. All other 5G and 5P ratios are identical.

An lt85 with a 1.222 ratio transfer case (as found on the defenders) has almost the same top gear ratio an an lt95 with a 0.996 ratio transfer. The difference is 60 rpm at 100km/h. Obviously the 1.003 ratio transfer would be 20% higher, but I don't know how 5th gear would like pushing the extra load.

I will hopefully be going the other way and swapping my 5 speed over to a 4 speed rather soon on my County. Then I'll feel better about adding a turbo. I wouldn't trust the LT85 with a 4bd1-t.

Defenders never had the 1.222 t-case ratio (there are rumours some late model 4BD1 110s had it though).

    My 110 originally had the 1.003:1 case, I currently have a 1.21:1 Q-case fitted.

The LT95 may be a similar ratio top gear, but it will be a LOT noisier - as it is an LT95!

I just towed a boat >5000 km behind my LT85. It does not seem to have adversely affected it.

    >50000 km now with Lt85 and 4BD1T - still going strong (touch wood). I think syntrans helps.

It is not like I baby it either (click on 2nd vid):

Yes. It was rebuilt by Mal Story at ~240k km, with mostly new internals (mainshaft etc) and whatever minor upgrades Mal does. Fortunately the PO footed the $5k bill!

For the first 40k km post rebuild it was filled with EP90 by a specialist sydney LR workshop who should remain nameless.

It has done >60k km with a turbo now, and >160k km since rebuild.

I received an email about a month back about a guy planning to fit a 4BD1T in front of the current defender 6 speed.

It's the same gertrag box used in the Mustangs, so the torque rating is adequate, it already fits the LT230 and it alread fits the defender. I'm not sure where he's at but I suggested he make the flywheel as heavy as he can while adapting it to smooth out the torque pulses.

This sounds very interesting. Are these boxes exy?

6spd landy would be so good!

Don't forget the current 6 spd Defender uses a 1.222:1 high range instead of the previous 1.410:1.
