I thought all the 200tdi's had LT77 gearboxes, and the 300tdi had the r380?

Not an area I'm an expert in.
What I really want to know is if a Defender R380 off a 300Tdi will fit a Series Landy 2 1/4 litre engine so one could fit a 5 speed box without having to use a Nissan or similar box.
I do know that the 200Td1 engine will fit the series gearbox but don't know about the 300.

Thanks Ben
Yes we are still proceeding with the Ashcroft short bellhousing R380 to "Gog" the SIIB, am hoping the modifications to the 6cyl flywheel housing will be finished early next week. (Its on the after-hours mates rates and waiting list) Then we can progress that conversion.
Another mate is somewhat interested in the process for a regular SIII and have found a 300Tdi Defender box for sale. However going on the thread linked above, the 5" extra overall length will foul with the cross-member behind the series box. I guess we have the info we need, but now need to see the space available after Gog's conversion and make decisions based upon what we find with that one.

Years ago, alot of guys in the uk were doing V8 conversions on series Landies using the bellhousing and short input shaft off the 101, and the LT95 to fit, without moving the motor forward like a 110/90. When ULR first started doing V8 conversions with the LT95 on S111 they used a 6cyl to do the conversion on for the extra 2" to the xmember. Or you can use a std bellhousing and move the xmember back to suit. The distance between the chassis rails is almost identical, so you could use the later defender xmember/gearebox mount as well, to keep chassis integrity. A bit cheaper than custom bellhousings etc
