John, yes you are correct that it has no nut on the adapter shaft. As for this not causing any problems, I am pretty sure it is.

I have two gearbox issues right now, a rumble in 5th at low rpm (below 1800rpm in 5th I can't use full torque) and a gear noise in over-run (engine braking) in low gears offroad. Either or both may be related. I didn't have either of these issues with my old MSA-5P box which did have a bolt right through to clamp the adapter shaft to the output shaft.

I plan to strip this adapter out, get it bored (it is hardened but a machine shop I use is confident they can drill it to 14mm and tap for M16 puller) and try to drill/tap the output shaft on the gearbox for a tensioning bolt. I have no idea how hard the output shaft will be and I don't want to strip the box if I don't have to.
If I can't drill/tap the output shaft easily, then I intend to modify the adapter housings to use the stock Isuzu output flange and an LT230 input shaft like the Rakeway item, maybe Grubb's. This is why both of those flanges are shown in the model.

This way it can all be done in-situ (once the LT230 is removed) to see if it works or if there is another source of my rumble. I can send the shaft off for boring (or EDM if it's too hard to bore) and get the internal nut made once I confirm the thread on the output shaft.
Cap screw and o-ring are bits I already have here for other jobs.

Mainly I avoid having to drill/tap the MSA output shaft. Which means I don't need to pull the gearbox from the vehicle.

Mmmm would be handy if you didn't have to remove whole gearbox...the yellow section is made from what exactly ? You mentioned it before but I forget...Also if you ever get to the stage that the whole spud shaft is removed would you be able to take a pic please...

The yellow piece is the back casing off the original LT77 gearbox. My transfer linkages and lever still mount off it.

On the left, my newly acquired 93. 3.9v8, auto, eas, sunroof, heated windscreen etc etc. Smashed ignition lock, oval steering wheel (clearly someone tried to steal it) and rusty back tailgate is pretty much it.

On the right, my old trusty 85.

Long term plan.
93 body and suspension onto 85 chassis with 4BD1T, LT230, EAS and possibly 6 speed box.
Very long term plan.

are the diffs identical on both trucks?

Compound turbos are on the list from way back. With the EAS shock mounts I'll have a little more room.
The 85 has 97 disco axles under it with ABS sensor slots (not currently used) and 24 spline. The 93 I haven't yet checked, but it does have ABS and traction control so must have the later metric hubs. I don't know if it has the elusive 10 spline metric or 24 spline shafts.

The front axle casing is different, the 93 has the EAS shock mounts in front of the hubs.

It's an eye opener driving them back to back. The 3.9V8 is smooth and relaxed but doesn't have any aggression in acceleration or braking. The 3.9tdi both accelerates and stops a lot harder. Even though the v8 with it's extra rev range would win a 0-100km/h sprint, it doesn't have the kick. The diesel is simply more vicious.

nice!!! well couldnt let you forget to add the compounds to the list as you have been wanting to do it for years....interesting that it has abs :o so pretty much the isuzu just feels nicer and more fun :twisted:

Dougal, how have you done your selector on MSA?
