Be good to cruise at 100kph in the right bit of rev range to give good fuel economy and still have power to get up hills. not sure what revs this is yet but I'm sure you guys can help. Cheers.
Oh, THAT won't be a problem anymore

I'd steer clear of a td5 - why pay more for something you won't be using? and you would not get more more for a s/hand td5 if/when you went to sell it.

That said, td5's are more to repair, and as such I've seen defenders with cooked td5's for for a few grand because the owner was quoted upward of 10k to fix the engine.

The the tdi will be a much easier conversion as they are all mechanical like the Isuzu. All the little things like accelerator & fuel pump will add up, causing IMO unnecessary headaches.

If you want a better dash buy some new VDO guages - a real upgrade

One day I will do exactly what you are proposing - I think it would be the best conversion. Make sure you post lost of pics!!!

Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)

Yes this is my first thoughts too, start with a tdi as they are all mechanical. But as you said some td5's have been sold for a few grand with cooked motors. I know it would be more mucking around getting parts but you are a few grand better off. Obviously my best bet would be to find a tdi with a cooked motor for a few grand.

Was thinking of putting a wanted to buy add in just 4X4 or similar, mabey try the auctions? Any ideas?

Or better still does anyone have a 130 converted to a 4BD1T and MSA 5spd? Pigs might fly but worth a try!

    Cheers, Andrew.
