    Unhappy Turbo is worn again................

    Hello guys, an update.
My turbo is dead now, I took it to a turbo specialist an he made the diagnoses:turbine wheels worn, axle worn (almost 0.5 mm)bearings worn.
Before I took off the turbo I checked the oil pressure ,it was 3 bar, engine hot, oil hot, after a highway trip, must be ok. Air filter still clean, so thats also ok.
My turbo specialist said overspeeding caused the turbo failure.
Checked the complete manifold, the only leak is the overpressure valve. It opens already at 0.3 bar pressure.

I want to buy a turbo now, but I cannot find one. Isuzu Belgium cannot help me untill now........
Can you help me? ( does anyone have alternative turbo's or ideas, or have manifolds for sale for a garett(what is the official number of the original garett turbo? ). Remember : My landy is LHD, I need some space for the brakes.

(what are the sizes of the mountings on the manifold from a T25 or T3 ?

    Greetz Takel.

Sorry I don't know the details of the manifold for the IHI turbo, so can't help much.

For your information the leaking overpressure valve can cause the turbo to overspeed. The best place for overpressure valves on a diesel is in the rubbish bin.

The IHI turbo pattern is 8mm studs on a 75x35mm pattern. T2/T25/T28 use 8mm bolts on a 73x40mm pattern.

To fit my T25/T28 turbos I simply slotted the holes on the T25 turbine housing so they would fit over. The gasket and port shape is quite a good match already.
My fuel economy improved almost 10% with the garrett T25, but my IHI was well and truely past useful.

There are a lot of turbos off the shelf that are a good match airflow wise, but none are a bolt on.

    Back on the road!

    Hello, an update.
Mij Landy is back on the road again. I got a Saab 9000 turbo (Garret) fitted to the Isuzu 4Bd1t.
I now run it on maximum 0.5 bar pressure, to keep everything in one piece.

    I am very happy!!

Great news. That saab turbo should be happy to around 1 bar on your engine. Turn it up when you get bored.
