Well went for a good run on & off road on the weekend. Other than the IP hunting up high it went very well. But on the way home I detonated the HP turbo and filled the intercooler with oil (not to mention the engine bay)
So weighing it all up it was fun BUT I am sick to death of the vibrations and will go back to a single turbo, get mt IP fixed and fit an overdrive.
To be totally honest, the only good thing about the truck box conversion is having a low first gear. I ran my R380 for 8 years with zero vibrations and a nice smooth shifter. So for the cost of the box, conversion kit and all the hassles with modding everything etc, 5K is a lot to spend for a constant vibration

Ouch, that's no good. Can you post up the photos? Broken shaft?
For flywheel comparison. I did a gearbox swap on my 2.2D work car. 22kg flywheel.
Justin,
Not sure why yours has a vibration but mine is smooth through the whole rev range, don't want to put anyone off the conversion.
I will do some more investigating when I get home for you.

Dougal,
I'm running the garrett 466409-2 which I think were fitted to the 4BD2T engines, that and only a mild fuel setting to give approx 550 deg before turbo.
It's a factory turbo motor and flywheel with the 300mm clutch. I had the engine and clutch components balanced when I rebuilt it.
Justin's is a N/A truck flywheel with 275mm clutch. Flywheel and clutch were balanced during the conversion.
There are a lot of variables, what do you think?
Eric
the settings you are running is probably no where near what us few with vibrations are putting out...where your torque is being delivered with that turbo it is probably higher in the rev range so not as noticable as Dranged's problem...i started getting vibes once getting temp readings of over 700*c before turbo but that is no means to base any theories off.
I'm running a bigger compressor wheel (60mm vs 54mm), tighter turbine housing (0.49 vs 0.67 A/R), 24psi boost and 750C EGT's. I need a light touch on the throttle at low rpm to avoid vibration, it's worst in the higher gears.
If I fitted the 0.64 A/r turbine housing and backed fuel off to 550C I wouldn't be getting vibration either. It's about having a lot of torque at low rpm. With a bigger turbine housing your boost comes on higher rpm and with lower EGT's you aren't running the same torque level.
Just from a seat of the pants guess. At ~400Nm torque level there is no vibration problem. I'm running somewhere north of 550Nm and it's there quite early.
I'm running the early turbo flywheel and 275mm clutch. My engine was also fully balanced about 15 years back. I don't think there is any significant difference in inertia between the 275mm and 300mm clutch options.
