I'd be worried about putting a turbo drain below oil level in the sump.
Where you have put it may be above oil level when the vehicle is on level road, but will it still be on steep climbs or leaning to the left?
My exact concerns especially with a non winged sump (not that 08bender is using a non winged sump) my findings were with a non winged sump and squeezing 7L in there would be enough space for a drain however whilst off road oil level will deffinately cover the drain....as I mentioned before in my mind the ultimate drain is where factory is as it has enough vertical drainage for side slopes and also is out of oil level...having said this Toyota 1hz turbo conversions all pretty much drain back to the sump but also saying that the capabilities of the Toyota is far less in more than one aspect![]()
Hi John/Guys,
The return is about 1 1/4" above the oil level with 9 liters in the sump. This might not be common to the Isuzu guys here but very common in turbo jap circles. I figure if it works in full tube buggies, well, I'll be fine. I will let you know if I ever have problems though. I also installed a windage panel in front of the return, justin case.
I took it for its first drive this afternoon. VNT actuator is disabled and the moment due to the little 3-bar mess up. When I hook the actuator to full vac it makes 5psi at 8 - 900 rpm with no load. I drove it about with the actuator line disconnected of course. Moderate load, 7psi @ 400 - 450degrees, pump screw half a turn out. Noticeable increase in power, must make at least 4bhp now.
I expect the valve to arrive next week, fingers crossed. Had to use rubber for my filter service hose, still no go with local wreckers. It might just stay the way it is for now as it worked out well. I'll post a picture shortly.
Cheers, Tristan
not much boost yetlooks the goods with the speed flow ive used them for everything else bar the oil filter which gives me an idea

No! I doubt it will ever see more than 13 pound. I have a Puma for fun, I just want a reliable bush banga' capable of holding 100 on little hills.
Oh, I have a little secret to, Proflow, not Speedflow. I feel to committed once I spend Speedflow dollars. I'll change over to Speedflow if I'm still happy with it in six months
Cheers, Tristan
damn you shouldnt have told me thathaha i am running speed flow turbo oil lines, bungs etc etc oh well ill turn a blind eye to it
well if your happy with how it goes now with minimal boost or fuel settings i would keep it like that then but be warned it will never just stay like thatmy county runs rings around my puma so i now spend more time with my old jigger
My Puma = 450hp
I'll be happy with 13psi, if not I'll leave it at home and take the Puma!
The build is mainly for a 5 week trip to the Cape mid next year, I've been a few times now but only driven the Tele' track. We have made some good contacts now and planning a fairly tough trip. I just cringe to think of pushing my shiny Puma through tracks that haven't been driven for ten years
It is nice to have a ute about the house to.
Cheers, Tristan
