I wouldnt fit any thing toyota to my vehicle if i was paid to and same goes for cooper tyres they have very weak side walls.
I had R380 behind my 4BD1-T 110 with 35 inch tyres for around a year before i broke a tooth on third gear while offroad, i now have LT95 behind it but always looking for 5th gear.
I am building 85 range rover with factory turbo 4bd1t and will be useing grubbs kit for msa aswell. if im happy with msa will be putting into 110 aswell.

Thanks for the replies so far. Well it does seem that the 4BE1 is the preferable motor from what I have read, but it will depend what we do find out there at the right price.

I do need to know if it is as easy to Turbo the 4BE1 as compared to putting a turbo on 4BD1.

Do have to replace an axle on our small car trailer/box trailer. Lost a wheel & brake drum with it, and the hubs and bearings are from a 1930 holden according to a wrecker where we chased a new brake drum. Our old drum had the centre riveted into it.

So new axle is going in, so will not be chasing a Isuzu Motor/gearbox for a few weeks, until we do have the ability to collect it in the trailer.

But am putting feelers out now-- My brother lives west of brisbane, and has a trailer, and his son, my Nephew, did his apperentiship reconditioning motors including 4BD1's. Sorry guys he no longer works there, so I cannot be giving out his contact details. I hardly see my Nephew anyway, but hope he may have contacts on the Motor.

Does the RR have enough room for the gearbox. If not does a 2 1/2 inch body lift give us enough room??.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yes, exactly the same. Like the non turbo 4BD1, the 4BE1 likely won't have piston squirters. This means you can't be as brutal with your tune as a factory 4BD1T. I run my factory 4BD1T at 750C EGT's and haven't had a problem yet.
Also being shorter stroke, expect to have a bit less pull at very low rpm.

    Yes.
I have no body lift and a shaved MSA shifter cover (it is very close on the reversing switch and hump to the bodywork under the heater box). I have a switch which was removed and the hole plugged to help it fit, I suspect it was a neutral switch. A 1-2" body lift will make access a lot easier and also make the rest of the swap easier.

I have never complained if a girl shaves a hairy armpit [though I do not complain if she does not shave], but I do not like the idea of a "shaved MSA shift cover" so I am starting another thread on lift kits. Thanks for all your replies guys.
