Chief's mate apparently has some inside information on which size plungers can fit which sub series in the A family. He also confirmed that 9.5 was the biggest with what we've got.Quote:

Maybe cams can be swapped to fix the rotation issues. Swapping the governor is probably not an issue if it was needed to clear the 4BD1.

Just backing up what John and dougal has mentioned here....the AD frame pumps are considerably larger in width of the main body by how many mm I'm not sure but I can find out if anyone needs that info...the pumps we have only go upto a 9.5mm element from zexel/Bosch's records the next common size is tags with numbers ###105#### (10.5mm) these seem to be all matched to the AD pumps..I am yet to find any larger elements that will fit in our pumps without changing the main body...Quote:

OK, reviving an old thread and going back to the original idea of a 6 cylinder install...
Am I correct in understanding the flywheel adapter used by JRA in factory isuzu land rovers will join any industrial isuzu B series engine to any LT85 or LT95 bell-housing?
If so, a 6BD1 or 6BG1 engine could be mated to the short bell-housing and input shaft from the Forward Control 101 LT95 gearbox which is said to be about 5-6 inches shorter than the standard V8 or isuzu LT95 bell-housing.
I realise I have just doubled the 'rare as rocking horse $#!t' parts required. Given that a 6 cylinder can't have much room to spare between radiator and bulkhead, the short bellhousing would keep the gearbox closer to the original location meaning less modification to the transmission tunnel and mounts. And it would have no starter motor location issues.
I am thinking a big lazy NA 6 cylinder isuzu with a heavy flywheel to further damp torque pulses might be less inclined to eat gearboxes and shake the vehicle to pieces than a turbo 4 cylinder. Stock dry weight the 6BG1 is 105kg heavier than the 4BG1T. So with a bit of weight loss like stainless manifolds, I doubt the installed weight would be too much more than a 4BD1T with MSA gearbox that appears well accepted in these forums.
I am still in the dreaming/planning stage on this one but I think this is all the engine I could want in a 110. I too love the idea of a Deutz or Cummins turbo 6 cylinder and a roadranger gearbox, but they really belong in something a bit bigger than a Landy.
So, to those with far more experience, is this possible;
Isuzu 6Bx1 engine -> JRA flywheel housing -> FC101 short bell-housing -> LT95 gearbox ?

In a word YES!!! Do it!! Finally someone else who is as daft as me!! I put a Nissan FD6 in a 101, and have been talkin to a guy in the UK who owns a Defender 90 which has a Cummins 6bt and ZF 5 speed against an LT230... Oh, and by the way.. There was one on Ebay a week ago. Not sure if its still there tho! Check out "The Big Purple One" on YouTube. He's a guy called Nick, and he's happy to talk about the conversion! His Fender sounds great, and I'm thinking this mother and box is the go for my next 101!!! Here's a pic of how he joined the ZF 5 speed to the LT 230.... :D
The short bell housing will not fit the flywheel housing. The flywheel housing was made for Jaguar Land Rover Australia, but JLA used different bell housings from other LT95's and LT85's.
Would you need to put a sals up front to handle the 555 odd kg of the big 6?
A 6 cyl with it's extra smoothness would be much easier on gearboxes. If it didn't have ~50% more torque.;)
I've always toyed with the idea of putting a 6BD1T into an ACCO 6x6. I think that would be rather perfect.
