    6BD1T in Land Rover?

Just out of interest, has anyone tried a 6BD1T engine in a Land Rover?

On a more sensible note; Has anyone fitted later model Isuzu 4cyl into Land Rover?

    1. Too heavy but some of us have thought seriously about it. ADF reportedly tried some in 6X6 variants at one stage.
    2. 4BE1 is the latest type I have heard of being fitted.

There are at least 2 landrovers with Cummins 6BT engines. These are the same size and weight as a 6BD1T.

I did a quick measure up at one stage. there is a lot of room to move the engine back in an isuzu 110, to make room for the extra 2 cylinders.

    EDIT - missed this:

I have measured one up (and posted the pics and measurements on here somewhere). The engine would fit, but the only issue is the IP, PAS pump and timing gears are at the BACK of the motor. So they would be a HUGE PITA to do any work on - unless in a forward control. You may need to shave the footwells to fit all the ancillaries.

"mid" mount it... the tunnel might make it look like a squashed version of a H1 interior though ;-)

The purple 90 is running a 5 speed ZF manual box from the truck the engine came out of, that then has an adapter to mate it up to a 1.003:1 LT230.

The guy who did it had a longish write up on Landyzone. Clicky

Either way, the torque pulses are a lot lower amplitude in a 6, so it would probably be easier on the box than a 4.

If I was going to all the trouble I would have done one thing different to these blokes and went with the cummins with the A type pump and not the VE pump but full credit to them anyways..

A relly in Katherine bunged a 6BD1T into a 4wd big Ford pickup to replace the big block petrol guzzler. He used a Road Ranger which really negates the need for a low range transfer case although the remote mount case he used has a low range. Good setup. He is a truck owner and his first thought was to use a Mack engine he had doing nothing but too bulky, too heavy.
