    Just a few questions on behalf of my Dad. His mate has a 1983 Stage one wagon that he is selling. The old boy is interested in it but has a few reservations;

    Noise - I know they are a truck derived engine so will be noisier than my Td5, but I guess it is longer lasting, gruntier, more durable etc etc. is there any proven noise killing devices? Did the county versions come out with an acoustic engine cover that could be retrofitted to this beasty?

    Steering - 109" Landys have heavy steering anyway. I can't imagine it being any easier with all that extra weight from the Isuzu bearing down on it. Is the steering box on these similar to earlier series Landys or is it the same sort as the Range Rover / Defender vehicles? If so is it possible to retrofit power steering box from a later vehicle? Would be great for older arthritic shoulders.

    These are the only things holding Dad back from taking the plunge into the world of Isuzu Landys. Any advice would be great.

    Cheers,

    Andy.
    Reviving a dead thread:

    This year I managed to track down this Stage one a purchase it.

    Back in 2012, the old boy stuffed about for too long and it sold. Fast forward five years, I'm wondering where it went to and the fact we have three kids the family no longer fit in the 3 seater 2a 88".

    The hunt revealed that it now lived on a farm South of Bunbury in Western Australia. A quick phone call to the owner and he mentions he's thinking of selling.

    Roadtrip with a fistful of notes and a deal is struck.

    "Ivan the Ibis" he is christened and we cruise home with a smile like a Cheshire Cat after too many bamboo schooners.

    Andy,

    The power steering kit offered by KLR in Windsor would likely fit up to your Isuzu 110. I have it installed to my Perentie; very worthwhile and is essentially a fully bolt-in system.

    Cheers, Dave
