    How loud is your Isuzu?

Had a quick play with a decible reader on an iphone yesterday in the county to see how loud the old beast really is. I've done just about everything I could to sound deaden the thing, and I think it's pretty good now. Travelling at about 100kph, the iphone however came up with a message saying that it's "too loud and causing hearing damage". In the front area, it read about 80dB no matter where you held it (same level in the footwells as at ear level - all windows closed). The 2nd row seating area was about 70-75dB.
Don't know how accurate the phone is, but anyone else tried this?

What's the name of the app you used? If its a freebie (or close) I'll give a try and let you know.
    1985 County - Isuzu 4bd1 with HX30W turbo, LT95, 255/85-16 KM2's
1988 120 with rust and potential
    1999 300tdi 130 single cab - "stock as bro"
    2003 D2a Td5 - the boss's daily drive

Think the app was called "TOO LOUD" (it's on the other halfs phone). It is free. The way you calibrate it seems a bit dodgy, but I don't know a better way of doing it.

I think the accuracy of your measurement would be VERY dodgy.

Offender90 is an acoustics engineer, and has done measurements of his (very noisy at the time) isuzu 120 ute, and posted the measurements up here (search under his username).

    Edit - here we go:
Isuzu 4BD1 Vs. 300tdi sound check

As for "Too Loud" - 85 dBA is the current legislated limit for an 8 hr occupational exposure AFAIK.

At highway speeds, mine is less noisy than a 300tdi Defender, and not too different to a Puma 110, according to a Puma owner who has come for a ride once or twice.
    Around town is very different...

Lro mag did an article on sound proofing a td5 in the uk this what they came up with
    30mph before 76db after 64db
    50 72 69
    60 78 71
    75 83 78

Ummm .... I might have missed something here, but I would have thought that an app called 'Too Loud' would only be used by males??

Sorry .... prone to brain snaps today.

Looks like I'll need to go for a run in a Defender and have a listen for myself. Haven't been in one for ages, but dont remember them being too bad. I dont think the County is that bad either, just end up with a ringing head after a long trip - but who cares.
As for your comment circlework, I am the one that uses the app, its just that its on her phone!

I have a proper DB Meter & after spending countless hours & $500 on sound deadening mine was 82 db @ 100kph.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm addlandies can't help with APP info BUT having driven LOTS of 300 and 200 Tdi defenders, my Isuzu 110 is quieter at 100km/h.
