So far towing well, needs a little more, but still quite happy, you know the camper is behind you, but a little more tuning will make the difference. Gotta get rid of these tyres but thats another story.

Glad its working well enough for you to relax a bit, auto would be good.
I know some think that a tdi auto is a slug but if it was 3ltr with a VNT it would kick arse.

Is that the 700R4?
Most people who've tried them in the states behind 4BD1T's or Cummins 4BT's won't recommend them. The torque pulses of the big 4 cyl diesels cause failures that you don't get with more power on a V8. Even high dollar rebuilds that are bulletproof in the V8 scene have had issues.
They are recommending the 4L80/4L85 which is significantly tougher or the 47RH from a dodge. I haven't heard of anyone but Sheldon using the E04D. Likely because price and availability of the 4L80/85 in the US makes it an easy choice.
Personally 6sp is the point where I could live with an auto, but I much prefer manual. I want to fit the MXA 6 sp. That's a whole project in itself.
Ok so been pulling the camper around justin coopers territory today, got some big hills, i need way more power (jc, hill coming out of kingston heading to hounville), 3rd gear on the governor (75kph), so will either order a big water to air intercooler or re power it for way more torque. Car goes fine with out the camper, goes ok with it but not awesome.

22psi, 668egt (got to 690 backed off, no real performance to gain), run out of puff in 4th gear, no real smoke, i need more boost and fuel but i think the intercooler is holding me back.
Maybe you need to change your transfer case ratio, if you have no power in 4th and 3rd is on the limiter and it feels like you need a gear in between.
I don't remeber exactly, but you have a range rover? What is its stock transfer case high ratio? What size tires are you running?
Time to ditch the lt95...
^^^ Or that haha
