Have you read the web page where that diagram came from?

If not, here are some snippets, but note it was written for a 3 litre Patrol with their small Garrett GT2052V VNT turbo, modified so ECU control of the vacuum was bypassed:
So if you had to much vacuum it wouldn't work?

Well, we've sorted out a couple of fuel pump issues, and have been running it up and down the nearest hill with vanes open, closed, and somewhere in between. Still no improvements on boost 5 or 6 psi, EGT is up around the 700 plus mark... :-\

    Have you added fuel?

Something wrong with assembly of turbo?

Was that with vanes wired/fixed solidly in position?

700deg with 5psi boost isn't much more fuel than NA I reckon.
Are you getting the 700deg when you plant your foot, or does it build up. If its not happening when you plant your foot then fuel it up. At least a couple of turns out from what it was running with the old turbo. Fuel it until you get some decent smoke on acceleration then you know you've got enough to work with.

There's a couple of posts around somewhere from Rovercare on tuning his. Vanes wired against closed stop, extra 4 turns out on the fuel screw...

    Found it: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-...st1416095.html

Edit: have you checked all your intake connections are secure - clamps/flanges etc? If you've got a large leak you're never going to get decent boost.

I assume you have checked for any boost leaks.

If none then its not flowing enough air and burning enough fuel, or blockage in exhaust system.

Did you alter or adjust the timing of camshaft and injection pump?

For your year model the injection timing is 13* for the 4BD1 and 10* for the 4BD1T. But with the fuel turned up, some more advance is often needed (the increase comes from a longer injection event, not more fuel at the same spot).

Also, once you do get it boosting OK, keep in mind that that 2.5" exhaust system you're using won't allow you enough flow to have the 30psi, fuel screw sitting in the console experience.
I'd guess it would cope with a solid 15-20psi with your intercooler based on my experience non-intercooled with that exhaust.

Well, found a leak in the line from intercooler to intake manifold, and getting plenty of boost now :-D looks like the intercooler has oil in it though, presumably from the turbo oil issue earlier in the week, and and the oil is also preventing the silicon from making a good seal with the stainless piping. Intercooler coming out to be flushed, clean oil out of silicone connectors and pipework, and reassemble.

All sorted we think, now blowing silicon bends off at 20psi. John got it, loose silicon bend. So inter cooler needs to come out and have a clean out from the leaky Turbo incedent and all should be OK.
    Sorted a few issues today.
