    white smoke

    hi guys.

recently i changed the oil in my engine and have noticed more then usual white smoke. its always blown a little white smoke on start up and for a couple of mins before it warms up. since the oil change it blows a fair bit more in first gear. after first gear its back to black smoke. a mate thought i might need thicker oil? but it is the same oil my dad as used in his car since he got it.

    any suggestions??

    cheers lro jr

When you say "it blows a fair bit more in first gear", do you mean; every time when you take off, or only the 1st time after a cold start.

If only when the engine is cold; white smoke is unburnt fuel and is not a concern if it occurs when the engine is cold.

If every time; grey, or bluish grey smoke (which might be confused for white smoke) indicates oil is being burnt - worn piston rings or valve stem seals. This smoke will be seen even when the engine is worn, and when the engine operation has allowed significant oil into the combustion chamber.
