    G'Day and welcome.
First, is it really a Perentie:
"A ‘True’ Perentie Land Rover will have; · a galvanised Chassis that is widened at the rear to carry a spare tyre between the chassis rails and
    · an Identity Plate (or evidence of its removal) on the Passenger seat base referring to “Truck, Variant, Lightweight, MC2. Some even include ‘Perentie’.
6x6 will read: “Truck, Cargo, Light, MC2. and
    · a LRA Australian Compliance Plate stating “Land Rover Military 4x4 or 6X6” and
    · all coil spring suspension on the 4x4 and coil front, load sharing leaf springs rear on the6x6 and
    · of course, a 4BD1 Isuzu 4 cylinder power plant (with turbo in the 6x6)."

After that, just the usual issues with an Isuzu Rover.
    Rust in the firewall/ doors/ bulkhead/ footwells/ chassis (&outriggers)/window surrounds.
If it is a genuine ex-mil, take a photo of the 'Mod'plate attached to the drivers seat base and I can tell you what safety modifications it should have.
Rust in the cooling system, noisy(ier than usual) gearbox, hoses that are brittle etc.
    That should get you started.
    Cheers, BDave.

    Hi,
The yellow 'pretendie' for sale in cairns does not seem to be genuine perentie ex military spec. Unless they have fitted a series roof and windscreen and firewall and dashboard. The seating is of the 'stage 1' variety but it appears to have coil springs? Ask for some photographs af the rear of the vehicle as the military back end is made up of straight bits of 'box section' or RHS and doesn't have the rear 'crossmember' of the normal landrover. This vehicle is also missing any evidence of a PTO winch or any 'air lift rings' on the front or rear which poke out infront and behind the vehicle.

As far as inspection goes, what Barefoot Dave said is right. Rust rust rust! Look up inside the firewall from where the front tires flick mud. there is a hole in the bottom of thr firewall there which can be inspected with a torch. You can see right up to near the windscreen there inside the firewall (its a bit tricky). Inside the chassis as well. Check for sand in the low points. Check all the normal spots on a landy like the creases in the footwells and tops of the footwells where the heater leaks onto the left hand side one. Hop underneath it on flat ground without the handbrake on (reccomend wheel chocks here) and check for excessive movement in the diffs/ transfer etc. Drive it and listen for clunks or abnormal grinding from driveline when cornering at low speeds. Driving at speed you should not have whining from anyone other than the missus on the accelerator or off it on over run. Check the brakes have a reasonable ability to pull you up without too much fuss (landies arent known for great brakes at the best of times). If you are realy keen you can check the diff/ transfer/g/box and engine oil conditions. Or maybe even lift the axles up one at a time and check the wheel bearings for movement if you like. Sometimes it all sounds like hard work but its less work and dollars than the repair job. (also a good haggling piont)

IMHO it is a build up of a early stage 1(leaf sprung evolution of series3 into County, with a 4bd1 and LT95 G/Box) with a 110 county chassis fitted underneath for the coils and also giving it the 1987 year model.

I would call their bluff on it being a perentie.

    My 2 cents mate.
    Brian.
