    Aircon AND endless air

Anyone running an aircon compressor AND an engine driven (eg endless air) compressor on a 4BD1T, or has thoughts on how it can be done?
At some stage I'm planning to install some aircon, but don't want to have to give up my endless air to do it.

I know that Mike_IE did a fair bit of head scratching and mocking up when he was doing his conversion, but it didn't come to fruition.

I've also seen on the Chinese 4BD1 copies like THIS where they had the alternator on the RH side of the engine.
Might be an option for one or other component if there simply isn't enough room on the LH side of the engine for both.

Other thing I considered is whether it might be possible to run a compressor from a PTO takeoff on the gearbox/transfer.

Steve, if you can get the alternate high enough, or move it to the other side, it will fit. Mikes would have fit, but he wanted to run a serp belt, it would have worked with a few v belts though, but he spent 4 days stuffing around with it instead of just getting the bloody car going.
Iirc it would have worked with 3 belts.

Found Mike's thread and had another read ( here )

Pretty much covers the various options other than mounting something on the RH side.

On a related note, does anyone happen to know if the 4BD1 and 4BD2 harmonic balancers are interchangeable?

Triple-row 4BD2 ones are easy to get from the US, so if they will fit a 4BD1 it gives the option of running a separate belt to the RH side of the engine. Having a quick look, if the fuel filter was moved there would probably be enough room for a compressor. Alternator would be harder as it needs oil supply and drain for the vacuum pump.

If you are running the isuzu spin on oil filter you might be able to plumb the alt into the feed it, all in the RHS?

Hi Steve, my old man had an isuzu county, LT95, with factory (crap!) air con and also had an endless air type air compressor driven from the PTO, worked fine. It also had a PTO winch, the compressor was mounted underneath near back of gearbox. Only thing is you have to put transfer in neutral and engage PTO to use compressor, so may not be suitable if you want to air up air suspension on the go.
    Cheers, Andrew.

Definitely do-able to put the alternator there - but I think its more messing around than a compressor in the same location. Alternator logically belongs on the engine LHS as its a short cable run to the main feed cable on the starter to get the juice back to the battery. Would add another metre or more and wrapped around the engine to get it there from the RHS.
Also just occurred to me that a 300tdi A/C compressor is on RHS top of the engine so there could be some benefit in that in regard with being able to use standard 300tdi compressor hoses etc if I could locate the A/C compressor there.

I've also picked up an Isuzu PTO drive that will fit a MSA box, so another possible option there for endless air....

    Thanks Andrew.
Was it a belt driven compressor?

Steve, he nearly had it in this pic. I'd look for that 3 row balancer, and space the fan pulley out and the alternator as well (move them closer to the radiator).
So what you'd get is a belt around the balanced/endless air/air con compressor.
And a belt around the balancer/fan/alternator.
    Easy

Not much belt against the water pump/fan pulley or the air conditioner pulley for that matter. Might need to get an idler or tensioner to pull the belts around the the pulleys to increase the surface area in contact with the belts.

I plan to run one off the t-case. Either PTO or a v-belt pulley sandwiched between the rear prop and handbrake disc.

For my use I figure I will only need AC while driving.
