Definitely do-able to put the alternator there - but I think its more messing around than a compressor in the same location. Alternator logically belongs on the engine LHS as its a short cable run to the main feed cable on the starter to get the juice back to the battery. Would add another metre or more and wrapped around the engine to get it there from the RHS.
Also just occurred to me that a 300tdi A/C compressor is on RHS top of the engine so there could be some benefit in that in regard with being able to use standard 300tdi compressor hoses etc if I could locate the A/C compressor there.
I've also picked up an Isuzu PTO drive that will fit a MSA box, so another possible option there for endless air....
