I would love to see some detail of your custom roof rack, I'd like to mount an awning like you have done on mine, and maybe an RTT in the future too. RTTs are so much more comfortable than ground tents!

Hi spudboy.
The car is going well, and I love it. I have done about 2500km.
It doesn't leak any oil.
The canopy doesn't leak.
The gear box is a little bit notchy when cold.
I had noticed that the turning circle was tighter anticlockwise but this has just been sorted with the bump stops being adjusted.
I have had problems with the tail lights not working but this was a dirty, corroded switch sorted by Bridgewater auto electrical.
Economy is 10lt/100km
We are taking it up to Jakem farm near Callington on Saturday 17th May to play 4wding If you are interested in joining us?
I have removed the riffle rack and installed a fridge between the front seats which is powered by a Thumper dual battery. I have built storage trunks in the back. CB radio going in on 19/5.

The photo was taken in our garden.

The roof rack was supplied, modified and powder coated by Pro 4x4 at Port Adelaide for about $600 /$700.00 (I don't have the exact figure in front of me). The roof top tent, awning and roof rack totalled $1900.00 including fitting.
Pro4x4 are agents for the 4wd Super Centre who sell the racks, tent and awning
The roof rack bolts onto the existing 4 holes used by the army rack.

Hi isuzutoo, these are photos of the roof rack and awning mounts. Thanks for the photos Arternune, that does look like a simple solution and a tad stronger than the stock job. It'd also be a lot easier to fabricate than a gutter mounted rack!

Rack was homemade to fit directly onto ROPS using existing rivnuts and 10.9 hardness M8 bolts. The RTT weighs about 50kg and if there is troubles after corrugated roads up north... we will perform an army mod and get rid of the rivnuts and longer bolts going right through the bar.

has anyone attempted to fit a RTT to an shorty with a canvas roof? does any one have any photos? i would love to do it with out having to chop into the canvas!

I guess the only way would be to have an external ROPS and mount to that?

The FFR land Rovers have 4 batteries and I assume that they are 24 volt? Is this a liability or can it be wired to run an 12 volt Engel fridge and other accessories. These FFR's seem to have better canopies presumably because radios cannot cope with getting wet.
We would like to take the Land Rover up north to the Cape. Can snorkels be fitted or are there other water proofing measures for them. I am aware that the vehicles will be slow and dusty but that doesn't bother me as long as they are reliable.
Some of the soft tops have pulled out of the groves above the windscreen. Are these ones to avoid or is it a simple fix?

Hi I just found this and wanted to ask you if you have managed to put a roofrack on your 4x4 as we bought last week our RFSV via on auction in Perth. Hope to get a reply from you (new to this forum and find it a bit confusing as you cant see replies unless you check the thread, I guess?, anyway like to exchange info on this roofrack idea, as we want to put on it also a roof top tent , thanks I.
