The battery light usually indicates an alternator failure.. Try connecting a multi-meter and check the voltage with things turned on and off and see if it is changing then the battery light in going on an off.

do you need to turn something on to stop the motor after you turn the key off. and how good a nick is your battery.
lastly has the alt been upgraded
the alternator is putting out 14.41 to 14.73 volts and is the original as far as i know.
to turn the car off ive hooked it up to a leaver so i can leave it running and cause i didnt have the money left for a solonoid
is there anything to say how many amps the alt is rated for, this will tell if its original.
i had the same problem a couple of years ago.
up rated alt to 80 amps. the thing needed a diode to stop back feed when shutting down. Ie turn the key off and the solanoid would not actuivate. taping the brake pedle or turning in a light would. i found that with out the diode the ing light would flash when the battery was fully charged
this is the alternator its a v8 wiring loom modded for the 3.9 and the regulator
but im not sure what amp the alternator is
Check the connections to the voltage regulator and/ or the regulator itself. I had the exact same problem as you've described- the voltage regulator was the culprit!!
Cheers JP
heres the fix the regulator need consatnce 12volt power and a ignition 12v power to make it work probley
