My parents had a Toyo 80 - constantly scrubbing tyres/leaks - told bend axle housing - could be straightened but risk of fracturing - could use off centre seals to fix leaks. Brother Toyota 80 also - lots of bearing noise from the bell housing area - he traded for a 200, no real carrying capacity (dealer says you don't buy a Toyo to carry stuff, you buy it to tow) waiting to see if issues. I have a '90 Troopy ideal camping platform cause of the room, but very basic vehicle and fuel use average, can't keep up with caravans on steep hills - lots of parts failed under 100k ie power steering, radiator, break booster, priming pump, dealer parts very expensive and generally not in stock in Darwin (despite number of vehicles up here) and rust rust rust. Toyo look great for clearance, until you bend down, see how low frame rails are, and see what hangs below the frames - excepting old style hilux, where you could park a mini
I like Nissans as concept. Frame rails aren't low, and everything is generally tucked above frame rails. If I understand correct 2.8 linked to sedan gearbox, 3.0 sensor issues, 4.2 heating issues. Mate has turbo diesel Maverick, says really pleased when he gets 500-600kms out of a (I think) 90l tanks. Got him into my Disco for a lift home from work, his comment "...a bit nippy, big engine?...wouldn't buy one because not made for Oz conditions..."
Like LRover I'm sure there are lots of work arounds for Toy and Pats. Lets hope the Defence force realised their mistake with the G-Wagons and auctions them off with no reserve...soon!
