    The two hitachi alternators are army spec/part nos which have an internal regulator. The new copy looks nearly identical.

    It sounds like it could be connected wrong. It could be that one of power feeds that go to the alternator has low voltage. It would be good to do some comparison to mine. I fixed my mates problem by checking what mine and his did.

    Sounds like it may not be the alternator itself but a current drain or short somewhere.

    It previously worked fine. The two replacements are connected the same way.
