    Help! What have I done!

Tried to start my county this morning and it wouldn't turn over. Tried a few more times and it fired up but blew a heap of smoke! Immediately turned it off and went investigating ( with torch light ) and found brown liquid leaking from top radiator hose and when I went to look in the resivour there was a lot of suction and gurgling. Once opened there is brown liquid inside! The dip stick oil looks normal no milky look to it. Any ideas what's wrong??

    Question Smoke and gurgling

Hi Hammer head, it sounds like head gasket doesn't it?

I would pull the glow plugs out and crank it over, or the injectors ( disconnect the "run" solenoid on the fuel pump). Plus have a look in the rocker cover for for brown foamy looking emulsion. If the starter can crank it over it's not likely much damage has been done. I think a head gasket would not be too big a job on the the old isuzu. good luck simmo.

Ah amazing! A little sun light and a lot is revealed! There is a major lack of coolant thru my system! I don't know why yet but I topped it up 2 weeks ago and it has been running fine. No unusual noises or strange sounds on start or shut down. Although now I have opened up the cooling system. Taken the thermostat off I have discovered a lot of corrosion thru my system.
Right now I am preparing my self for the worst.
I'm pretty sure I'm up for a new thermostat a new water pump and maybe a new or fully cleaned and serviced rad. Now I just need to know what else may have gone wrong and how do I check for them??

Pull the water pump. It has a steel backing plate that's likely corroded. Cheap to replace last time I bought one ($20??).
The oil cooler might be another thing to check but I've no personal experience with that.

    head gasket

Hammer head, the old Isuzu was probably due for a "birthday" anyhow , new water pump, radiator clean out etc, she'll be good for another 200,000 kms

Don't forget to check the piston heights as it may well have bent a conrod due to hydraulic lock...😣😕.

Dont forget the oil cooler inside the block....

the generally last about 20 years or so if the don t get hurt by other means.

My rough rule is to replace it with every second radiator and inspect it with every radiator cha ge.
