I seem to remember the sticker on the rocker cover of my Isuzu says "ADR30". But it is down in the shed, and I'm in the house, and I've taken my boots off! (and still got socks on)

    Hi Everyone,

Sorry to hyjack the thread.... I am about to embark on the same project discussed here... converting a 1995 130 Tdi Crew Cab to Isuzu with a recently purchased a 1985 4bd1 County wreck.

I note mention of issues interstate regarding approvals for vehicles younger than 1994.... which in part has me worried.... but here in SA I have written approval from the Dept of Transport to carry out the 4bdit conversion on my 1995 130 in either naturally aspirated or turbocharged versions.

Nothing regarding emissions is mentioned in the approval letter, only that the work is carried out to accepted auto engineer specifications & original injection system/injectors used.

Should I be worried if I do the conversion in SA that I won't be able to register the vehicle in another state like Vic?
Can anyone shed some light on this please... no plans to move at this stage but I was originally a Vic and like to keep my options open.

BTW I seriously considered buying a Perentie & doing the chassis extension and swapping the cab/tub over however I was told engineering to increase the abysmal tow rating of the Perentie would be a greater hurdle than the engine swap plus the cost of a re-spray put me off.\

    Cheers,
    James

Hi James, I wouldn't be too worried about changing the rego to Vic in future, from my experience once a vehicle has been registered interstate it's enough proof that it's ok for Vic. Was another loop hole to consider for Vic people, get it registered interstate at friends address, then transfer back...

Good point to consider about the perenti re tow rating, would also want the GVM to be at 3500 also.

And for people in Vic, keep trying different engineers, when I looked into it a few years ago I had in writing I could convert up to a 2002 td5 130 to 4bd1t. I suspect it's open to interpretation a fair bit for the reasons Dave pointed out with these motors being used and plated for so many applications. the engineer I spoke to has since retired so no use now.

    Got to love red tape...

    Good luck,

    Andrew.

QLD and NSW have the most stringent requirements all other states will to a fair degree accept that if it is passed in another state that its going to pass in theirs. (but will still make you jump through the rego inspection hoops, just not the engineering ones UNLESS they find something seriously not to description)

WA can be problematic if you do the work there or want to do a first rego but if you register interstate and keep it legally and safely on the road for 12 months prior to importing it you can get away with most things that other states will accept and blue plate.
