I thought it was a template for adjusting the maximum load set bolt???

I have found differences in adjustment needed between different engines. I too would want an EGT.

Read it, not sure what to make of it
3:1 on it being a variation of the initial setup positioning measurement and is, at a guess, probably just a precision cut "bracket" that you push onto the body of the pump and then wind the screw out till it just touches.
In theory if everything is just right if the pump sets up perfectly to spec off the test rack this will work everytime but give the wide variation of what was "acceptable performance" of the 4bd1 in a landy or the variations in settings for other variations of the engine if you have one of those, you could be doing anything at the pump.
Id suspect however that KLR has got a not insignificant safety margin on what they're providing on their bolt up kit, I've seen reviews and had a look at what they kit up and they dont push nearly as hard as I'm willing to when I've got an EGT and boost gauge to play with on the setup, that said, they do push a little harder than I'm willing to without the gauges BUT lets be fair here, They've done a bucket load more turbo conversions and tunes than I have so they probably have a bigger data pool to be able to lift the "safe minimum" adjustment settings. I'd bet that a close look at their initial trials would show that their first go rounds without gauges would have been lower power specs than what they do now.
sometimes it pays to pay for experience.
me personally. I'd trust their setup out of the box but wouldn't push much further without gauges
