Ok, just read 33 pages of posts in the other thread, so this all makes sense now.
I'll be watching with interest.![]()

I will watch this thread with great interest as I plan to up grade to an ISUZU 5 or 6 speed gear box .
Matt, how long is the rakeway shaft?.
What I'm getting at is why not just re drill the msa flange to suit the rakeway shaft and then make an adapter housing to suit that length. Easy
In regard to Vern's point, it would be interesting to know the diameter of the Rakeway flange in Mud's possession to confirm what I was told over the phone those years ago.
And to confirm the Rakeway unit is comprised of two parts (shaft and flange) splined to fit and held in place by a bolt - from what I could see of the unit on the Rakeway site. If it is two parts, can you pull it apart Mud and provide a photo, if not a hassle?
My understanding from Rakeway was that it was made to matched the Land Rover flange size ie approx 95mm. The Isuzu is approx 120mm.
When I compared a Rover flange to the Isuzu I could see that the Rover bolt holes would have to be moved to a new larger circumference, meaning the new holes would be right on the margin, if not breaking through the Rover flange edge. The alternative would be to increase the diameter of the Rover flange by pressing into and welding on a ring of new steel.
Then there is the issue of:
- whether or not the witness ring and recesses could be matched
- was there enough room in the bell at the back of the Rakeway to allow for the nose of the Isuzu output shaft.
Presumably both issues solved by some further machining.
Mud, what are your ideas for additional chassis support for the transfer case and the Isuzu gear box if you are not intending to join the two with an adaptor? Or is that thinking too far ahead![]()
Mud, maybe I'm not getting something. Looking more closely at your photo of the Rakeway, have you already hacked the Rakeway and welded it on to another flange, as it looks different to that on the Rakeway site? Or have they changed their design? Did you just order their spline but not the flange?

Damien - mate just got home from the Salt Mine
Shaft is 155.79mm in length.

I'm keen to not have a rigid coupling, mainly because it gives (me) some flexibility should the Isuzu output shaft not be concentric with the LT-230 input. I think it's also a bit kinder for power transfer. I had considered a small uni-jointed shaft but in a 100 inch wheelbase, you run out of room.
