Nice work. Did you notice any difference in quality between the two pictured next to each other? The grey one looks a little nicer.
Can the barb be drilled and tapped into the other housing? Or are there internal differences?

No major differences as far as I could tell but hard to say. Both had about the same resistance to turn by hand which was quite a bit compared to my old one. Old one spun freely and also had some play in the shaft, so that would explain the leak. My guess is if I take apart my old one there will be no grease on the bearings and completely dry, possibly corroded. The new ones feel like a bearing fully packed with grease. Interesting that the new Isuzu one doesn't have a grease nipple tho. Protex one does.
I can inspect further but I can't see why you couldn't tap a thread. If I had a 3/8" BSPT tap at home I would have done it. I was going for fastest option so it was either go buy a tap or go buy the Isuzu pump.
I chose the $400 option!
