    Lt95 variants

    Hi all
Just a query re the lt95's fitted to Isuzu engined landed v the lt95's out of older rrc v8's
Is there a list or page on the variants of these boxes?
I've 2 in the shead and have toyed ( or am) with the idea of them being usable behind an Isuzu in a defender
    Cheers mark
Ps do the military ones differ yet again?

Mark, there are quite a few versions of the LT95 but basically all the gearboxes themselves are the same apart from minor differences like selectors and reverse idler shaft and they all have the same gear ratios. The transfer case is a different story. There are quite a few different ratios and things like the rear output housing and handbrake are different on the RR, 101 and S3 stage 1. Only the military LT95A and the 101's run a tapered roller bearing intermediate shaft and they are a different type for each of them. Later HC RRovers around '82-'84 ran the same ratio and large handbrake as the civvy 110 Isuzu and the military version but not the tapered roller bearing setup. All the bits are interchangeable and you can make a later type one up from an earlier version if you have the necessary bits. The Isuzu version runs a different clutch bellhousing to the V8 models and the 101 has a different one and a shorter input shaft to the RR V8 as well. Have a look at the serial numbers on the transfer case and that will give you some idea of the age and application.
    Cheers......Brian

Hi Brian can you confirm the 101 also has tapered bearings. I thought they ran a standard tfr case as far as that goes but I am not sure.

    Cheers

Don't think they are a factory fit Gary but I have seen a few 101 boxes with a ritter type TRB setup in them. Different to the one in the military 95's. Maybe Gav or Mick or others with 101's can confirm this.

I've got 2 101 boxes, but they both work so never checked.

Maybe the Aussie delivered ones were fitted with them which would mean neither of mine were.

Is there an easy way to check? I've got one sitting under my bench so not hard to pull something off to have a look...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I will post up a pic of what they look like in the morning Gav. But basically they are identifiable by a bolt thru the middle of the intermediate shaft with a nut on the outside.

Thanks for the info, just what I was after, is there a measurement for the handbrake , the car I'm scrapping is 82 2 door but not it's original box plus I've got some shifters etc and a lt 95 to chev adapter and bits I think

Clutch throwout bearing and pushrod are both different between V8 and Isuzu; throwout bearing has a ~25mm spacer between the bearing itself and the carrier and the pushrod is a fair bit longer. I know Brian has the pushrod length memorised so I won't go looking for it!

The large lt95 handbrake is the same as the one that will be in your Defender already, so if it's smaller than that it's the RR one.
