    Material differences btween a NPR 4BD1T and a ex-army 4BD1?

    Gents,

The TD5 has a bent rod so it's about to become an anchor.

Besides the turbo, what are the material differences between the NPR400 version and one from a County or Ex Army 110?

    Cheers,

    Jason

    Oil sprayers-good
24v starter and alternator I think
NPR Dual oil filter will sit close to front prop shaft, unless you can source a spacer setup.
    Probably others.

    LOTS of differences
flywheel housing, flywheel, clutch, clutch spigot bearing, starter, alternator, engine brackets and mounts, intake pipe and manifold, thermostat housing position, rocker cover. County and army 4x4 motors are the same except for a couple of things like spin on filters. They are actually an industrial motor and used elsewhere like in excavators etc. The army 6x6 turbo motor is very close to the NPR motor - differences are electrics, flywheel and housing plus clutch, spigot bearing and the spacer for the downward facing filters as RAR110 mentioned above plus the truck motor will have the wrong engine mounts and brackets. Better to get one that has come out of a 110 if you can. Often times those little things that are different are hard to find AND expensive.

    Turbo version has nitrided crank?

Sorry, are you thinking of replacing the TD5 with the 4BD1(T) ie is that possible regulations wise, or are you contemplating getting another vehicle already fitted with a 4BD1 or doing a conversion?

You might also want to consider the choice of gearbox behind it ie LRover, Isuzu, other.

In simple terms if you go the 4BD1(T)/LRover box then you will be mucking about at the clutch/bellhousing end. If you go 4BD1(T)/MSA then you will be mucking about to adapt the transfer case to the end of the gearbox.

I agree with the above. It would be easier to move your TD5 body on to a GS Perentie chassis. Then turbo it. I like the 4 speed, but if not for you then the MSA option.

Done...got one yesterday, pick it up Monday. Full rebuild on the cards.

Yes, it is in NSW. KLR are doing some Puma to 4bD1T conversions in the coming months.

For my truck, facilities and situation it will be far less hassle, and cheaper, to just swap in a new motor. Once the replacement engine mounts are welded in the rest of the driveline stays exactly where it is...the R380 will be mated (via a KLR adapter) to the 4BD1.

    Thanks for the input guys.

    Cheers,

    Jason

So how many iterations of the Euro pollution compliance/ADRs does the 4BD1T cover?

I thought at the latest it could go into the D1 (Euro1?).

But if I understand correctly from this thread it can go into the D2 (1998-?) and Puma (2007-?), in NSW at least.

Some links, Daves comments are interesting in the first thread.

    Isuzu emissions standards?

I'm light on the detail ATM....I'm talking to KLR Monday and will have a head full of knowledge after that.

    I am told up to 2005 with a 4bd1t.
Good luck with the r380, hopefully its an upgraded one. I would be dropping the msa in personally.
