In the next month or so I will be looking to fit a snorkel for the zuzu. Just wondering what others have done....prices, suppliers, type etc...
cheers
Paul
Paul,
eventually I will be doing a mock up using pvc pipe and bends. Then take it to pipe/tube bending place. I will probably just kill rust mine.

I'd be a bit sus if you want to run a standard defender designed snorkel, as they were only designed for a 2.5 litre motor. Thats why i went for twins. I got one from a wercker (200tdi safari passenger guard) and one new from england (drivers side guard safari copy). You also need all the inner guard intake pipes off a 200 and 300tdi defender (from the guard vent to the aircleaner) and bore another hole in your donnaldson where the current water drain is located. My english copy safari cost just under 290AU at my doorstep, they are available through a few people on pommy ebay. Some may twin snorkels are overkill, however i had a very noticable difference in power when i hooked them up.

defender snorkels for tdi's vary in size
a safari has 90mm throat which should be fine for an 4bd1 i would have thought.
other brands have smaller throats i believe but i havent personally measured them.

Earlier safaris were smaller, as the 200tdi 2nd hand one i got from a wrecker was only about 75mm if not smaller at parts. The newer safaris are the larger 90mm, same with the coppies, but the pipework inside the guard you need to run one isn't.
I got the small 200tdi one first, so i had no choice but to run 2.
I just got a safari that plumbed into the drivers side and fitted a 4BD1 N'A air intake reducer/rubber, this fitted straight onto the snorkle outlet and enabled the 3" donaldson hose to fit upto it without a worry.
I'm still dubious about the twin snorkle thing. Stranger things have happened though......................
Paul, one thing I just remembered about the steel snorkel on my previous Isuzu County was the additional engine noise echoing back up the snorkel and out right beside the driver side window.

I did similar to Larns about 4 years ago only used a cheaper non-Safari snorkel. It suspiciously like it is only good enough for the smaller Landy engines. For what I used my machine for (mostly slow bush work and gravel roads) top end power was never an issue. However I have always felt that it strangled the 4BD1 above 2500rpm, quite noteable on highways dragging a heavy trailer. I'm going to experiment with the 3" hose taken off the Donaldson inlet and see if it runs harder.
